11 stone 6 pounds - lost 6 pounds from last week, 4 pounds from initial weigh in.

A bit relieved that I have lost the weight gained the other week. I am not usually so up n'down in weight, even when on a diet -- this may be down to a bit of flu that caught up with me last week! Not that I am making excuses, but it is one of the things that dieter's struggle with when working hard to develop a healthier lifestyle -- getting sick! When you are feeling worn out, it is so easy to fall back to the old habits, but it is important to move on and try to get back on track until the new regime becomes a new habit. Some things are already a part of my every day living, like not reaching for the olive oil to cook every meal.

Easter Monday we went out to eat -- I was still feeling a bit unwell and not up to cooking and cleaning up. I paid no attention to my fat intake and had fried chicken goujons, chips and two Cokes. My husband had the same and the next day he felt terrible. "I'm not used to eating food like that anymore!" The whole family (though the kids are too young to know it) is getting used to a new way of eating.

Can't forget about my actual Easter digressions -- I did have some chocolate, but not all of the chocolate in the house, as I would have done in previous years. I think the trick was to put the kids' Easter basket on the top of the kitchen cupboard, out of their reach -- and mine! Then we had our treats a little at a time at specific times -- after lunch, after dinner. If the basket was on the counter I would dip into it everytime I walked by. I had a go at a low fat Easter dinner (not to belabour the point, I was pretty unwell and not too creative here).

  • Turkey - put no oil on the skin and roasted it in a bag to keep in the juices, it came out a bit dry, but maybe because I went out and may have left it in a bit too long;
  • Stuffing moistened with chicken stock instead of butter, missed the lovely taste of fried onion and garlic;
  • Boiled potatoes, can't go wrong there;
  • Gravy from the degreased pan juices and thickened with Bisto granules came out nicely;
  • Frozen beans, no comment.
    Not a bad meal, really. I took the skin off the turkey as soon as I took it out of the oven and put it in the dog's dish. When we were kids, my sister and I always fought over who got the skin off the turkey -- no wonder I have a weight problem! I have to admit, I did sneak a taste, but it wasn't very nice without being bathed in butter first anyway!

    I got most of the fat trimming ideas from The Anne Collins Diet. Anne's diet is a low fat eating plan, made up of ordinary foods available in any supermarket. The sort of food it recommends, includes: bread, potatoes, fruit, vegetables, beans, lean meat and cereals. It aims to help you lose an average of 2 pounds a week. (Anne, please forgive any digressions this week!)
