Sorry this week's installment is a bit late getting online. Honestly, I didn't really know what
to say. I've gone weeks without chocolate and am really moving over to better eating habits, in
many ways, but I am again over my weight at initial weigh in. I must admit, to myself more than
anything, that I am not following The Anne Collins Diet
as closely as I should be. I've not picked up the booklet in a few weeks. As happens with many dieters,
I've taken on what is easy for me to adapt to and then pushed aside the areas that are a bit harder,
i.e. eating more fruit & vegetables, requesting low fat options when eating out, making a healthier
and more satisfying lunch for myself. I keep planning to make more effort to address these issues, but
I haven't got around to it.
Women often short change themselves by putting everything else in their lives at the top of the
priority list. Sorry guys, I know there are a lot of you out there with the same problem, but it is
What comes first -- the needs of others in your family (parents, husband, kids...),
the people at work, local groups, friends even? This is what I have always done. I always
put 100 percent into my family, any job or outside project I had going; but never put that energy
into losing weight and being the person that I really want to be. Of course you have to feed your
family and meet all of your work obligations, but there must always be time for yourself. Why do
women do this? Do we pick this up from our mothers? Are we brought up to feel selfish if we take
time out for ourselves? I do not believe that there is some "plot" to keep women down, but there is
something that influences women in this way. Do I sound unconvincing? Well, I haven't "gotten it"
myself!
Maybe I need a group, like a slimming class, for support. Though I think it is even more
than that. I need to open up to those around me and get their support. Not, "Stop me when I reach
for that chocolate bar!" but "I need some room for myself without feeling guilty about it." The
first step is to make time to just think about yourself, how you feel and what your really want --
will the actions to carry it out then fall into place? You'll have to check in next week and see how it
goes! Where's my old copy of "Fat is a Feminist Issue"?
